Seagrass Recovery’s Kenny Wright discusses important Coastal Zone Management Act Reauthorization Legislation

WASHINGTON, D. C. - On October 9, CSO co-sponsored a Coastal Zone Management Act (CZMA) briefing, The CZMA & the Nation's Policy on the Oceans, Coasts, and Great Lakes: Its Role & Its Potential. The briefing focused on the continued importance of the CZMA, especially in the context of the recommendations of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force and climate and energy legislation under consideration by Congress. Speakers included: Donna S. Wieting of NOAA's Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, Sarah Cooksey of the Delaware Coastal Program and CSO, Jim Lanard of Deepwater Wind, and Kenny Wright of Seagrass Recovery. The panel was moderated by Jordan Diamond of the Environmental Law Institute. The briefing was co-sponsored by the Environmental Law Institute and the National Estuarine Research Reserve Association.

After the event,  Kenny Wright  Executive Vice President of Seagrass Recovery added that “I am honored to have been one of the panelists for this important discussion, the Coastal Zone Management Act Reauthorization is critical to providing large scale ecologically significant restoration projects in our communities while creating jobs and reversing the habitat losses we face every day. Seagrass restoration projects create the ability to provide long term jobs in our communities while reversing the degradation of these critical habitats. Seagrass, with its countless benefits including being the nursery of the sea, its direct correlation to water quality and providing protection against coastal erosion while protecting coral reefs and crucial role in battling climate change and sea-level rise, is a resource that truly deserves our attention and focused efforts on restoration activities.”

Mr. Wright’s presentation focused on the role of small business in the implementation of the initiatives that may be included in legislation reauthorizing the CZMA. To review his presentation, please download it here : Seagrass Recovery – CZMA Panel
